Though Texas Holdem and Omaha Poker are the poker games played with five community cards they have differences. One of big basic difference is in Omaha is you have to choose from total 9 cards. In this poker game each player is provided with four cards in hand and five cards are kept face up on the centre of the table. So the player can select the best 5 cards combination in such a way to have two cards from the four in hand and three from five on the table. This makes this game more challenging and fun-filled.

There are two types of Omaha pokerOmaha High and Omaha Hi/Lo split. The betting in this game can be structured, pot or unlimited. Let’s look at the Omaha High type of poker game which is easy to learn and play. The lowest structured bet is $2/$4. Some games are $5/$10, $10/$20 and so on. In $2/$4 poker game, for first two rounds the minimum bet is $2 and for last two minimum betting is $4.

One of the players is made a dealer. The dealer has to act at the end during each round. A button that identifies the dealer is rotated left after every hand. To start the game two blind bets are posted. The player left to the dealer puts small blind which is half of the minimum bet ($1 in this case). The player to the left of small blind has to post big blind ($3). No more money is posted by other players. As button to identify dealer rotates, each player will be given chance to be dealer, post big blind and small blind in each hand.

After the posting of the blind each players are provided four cards face down. The player to the left of big blind puts $2 in this case or can raise it to $4 or can fold on having a bad hand. Betting continues and reaches player who posted small blind, he can call the bet by putting $1. The last person to act is one who posted big blind; he can raise or do nothing. After that 3 cards are placed face up on the table which is called ‘flop’. These cards are called community cards and have to be used by all the players. Next round with change in dealer and minimum bet $2.

The betting goes on the same way as in the first round. After completion of flop round, the dealer puts one more card in the middle with face up. This is termed as ‘turn’. Now the minimum bet is $4 and it proceeds in the same manner. Finally the dealer opens the 5th card in the middle of the table which is called ‘river’. The minimum bet in this final round has to be $4. Once the final round gets over its time to show cards, the player with best combination of cards is a winner. If two players get tied up then the total amount (called pot) is distributed among the two.
