Poker Movies-Maverick
Its intriguing movies such as this that has in year past stirred up an avid interest in the game of poker. This has led right up to the popularity of online Poker. It doesn't matter whether the game is Texas Holdem, Omaha, oh just a good basic poker game such as that depicted in the Maverick Poker Movie.
Brett Maverick, played by Mel Gibson, of course is a very charming, conniving gambler, who wants to play in the Three Rivers Poker Championship so badly. In fact, he'll do just about anything that he has to, to accomplish that, because he wants to win the huge jackpot of $500,000, that is up for grabs. He is such a cock-sure gambler, that he figures he will have no problem getting the money that he needs as an entrance fee.
The $3000 that he is short, to attain the $25,000 he needs for the entrance fee, doesn't turn out to be quite as easy to get as he thought. Annabelle Bransford, played by Jodie Foster, although seems very sweet and of course beautiful, turns out to be just as cunning in her moves, as Maverick is in his poker playing moves. She then becomes his love interest, and the gambler has a real woman on his hands to deal with, as she turns out to be a hustler and a thief.
Maverick thinks he will have absolutely no problem getting the money out of the poker players in this small town of Crystal River, but they give him a run for his money and present him with many challenges and mishaps along the way. He isn't the only con man in this poker game, and these men do everything in their power to prevent Maverick from getting into the tournament.
He tries to collect some debts that others owe him and then collect the reward money, but to no avail. He joins forces with Annabelle, a woman gambler, whose accent has her depicting a southern belle, but that is as fake as she is. Deception is the name of this game, and this movie is full of it as it all unfolds.
Even though he is tied to a tree and his horse, he manages somehow to escape and he makes it to the poker game, which is taking place on a paddle steamer. As he plays the hand he is given, even though there is some bad dealing taking place, he ends up having a royal flush and he didn't even look at his final card, but calls anyway. The card he needed was the ace, and that is what he got, to make the royal flush, the 10 to the ace of spades.
Needless to say, the other gamblers were enraged, drew their guns, and Maverick and Cooper, played by James Garner, (the original Maverick in the TV series) killed the other men. If you want to see how it ends, you will have to look it up. Happy movie watching. Thats of course if you can pull yourself away from the online poker game of Texas Holdem.
