Tournaments like this aint my best side of poker .. but i like to play them.
I read some articles explaining how to play in the 3 fases of the tournament, Play really tight in the early fase, somehow play more poker in the mid game and ifso, you can to take advantage of your big chipstack and be a little loose to make the lower stacks force to fold or go AI. End game is really tricky to play in, being short stacked really makes it an AI fest you won't make it by playing tight since the Small- and big blinds will eat you along with the antes. it actually means going AI with just a couple of BB left in your stack with any Axx or either pocket pairs. Winning the blinds havn't been more important then you would ever imagine.

any other advice on this one?

I would start using software like holdem manager or pokertracker. This way you can check the stats of your oponents and have a way more accurate guess if you should go AI preflop, and improve your win rate.

allow me to suggest a little different strategy for the start, middle and end games.

start: tight, but not really tight, with your hole cards. really tight with your post-flop play. this is the part where fish who can never fold AA will donate all their chips to you when you hit trips, str8 or flush. if you only play "really tight" hole cards, you will not be in the position to do such. likewise, be committed to throwing away top pair/top kicker, KK, and AA on the flop (yes, you heard me correctly---"flop"). you want your chips in the middle when you have the nuts, and too often you will be dominated (even with those "golden hands") when your opponent shoves all-in on the flop.

middle: your hand selection should tighten up, but your play should loosen up. by playing more quality hands, even if you are called you should be in good shape. too many big-stack bullies find themselves out b4 the money because they think no one will shove back. quality hand selection is key. if you are short=stack, shove with quality to try to double up. the idiot bullies should be very helpful in the endeavor. and DONT PLAY TO MAKE THE MONEY, PLAY TO WIN. making the money earns you 2-3x the buyin. winning often makes you 30x the buyin. (example from recent tourney on Bodog-$40 buyin- i play. first earned $1200, second earned $800. sadly, i took second.)

end: i sure hope you dont find yourself too often with only a few blind orbits left at this stage. if so, shove with ANYTHING connected/suited/high or that just look pretty to you. look for those play too tight, and exploit them. they only want to move up the money ladder....remember, you want to WIN. looser hand selection is necessary in the end, but be prepared to fold if reraised a by "chicken" player when you hold a less quality hand. dont be afraid to shove against the big stack when you have quality. this set a tone ev1 will respect, and will let u steal more. picking up blinds and antes is ESSENTIAL.
