First rumored on 2+2 over the weekend and confirmed by TowerGaming affiliate Poker Affiliate Solutions on Tuesday, players will be transitioned to the new network as soon as tomorrow. It is thought that Tower will move to the “Euro Cake Network,” a European sister of the primary Cake Poker network that is licensed in Malta and does not permit US sign-ups. Player pools are shared between the primary and Euro-branded network. TowerGaming has been one of the more recognizable brands on bwin’s Ongame Network, aggressively rewarding players for playing a large number of hands with unlimited reload bonuses and VIP promotions. Its marketing strategy appears at odds with Ongame Network’s outspoken plan to encourage recreational play, which may explain Tower’s move to Cake. Cake enforces a maximum of 33% rakeback to all skins on the network, so loyal Tower players may not receive the rewards they have enjoyed up until now. Specifics on the new reward system have not yet been announced. Despite – or perhaps because of – Cake permitting players from the US, Ongame boasts four times as many cash game players as Cake, ranked 5th in overall network traffic according to PokerScout numbers. Players on the struggling Cake Poker Network will welcome an expected boost to traffic, which has seen an overall decline in cash game traffic over the last three months.
