the second reason why you could bet is to bluff, i.e. to make your opponent fold a better hand.

Again let`s look at some examples.

Let`s say you raise preflop with 78s, you get one caller, and the flop comes K 6 2 rainbow. Your opponent checks. Its very unlikely that you have the best hand, you only beat unpaired cards between 6 and 2, and its not likely your opponent called your preflop raise with these hands.

If you bet (this bet is known as a 'continuation bet'), you`re opponent will probably fold a lot of hands that beat you, unpaired cards between 6 and K like 78-QJ, A high, pocket 33s-55s and against a tight opponent maybe even pocket 77s or 88s.

Another example is the semi-bluff. A semi-bluff is a bluff with a hand thats unlikely to be the best hand but has a lot of outs to improve to the best hand. Let`s say you have Th9h and you call a raise preflop. The flop comes Kh8h2x. Your opponent bets and you raise. Again, your opponent will probably fold a lot of hands that beat your hand, hands like A high, pocket 99s through QQs or an 8.

When you think about bluffing you should always ask yourself: will my opponent fold a lot of better hands? If the answer is no, you shouldn`t bluff.

This is the second part of the "reasons to bet" post.

I noticed that 2, when you`re the chipleader you can really bully the table in MTTs
If you can`t spot the donkey at the table, you probably are the donkey!

i usually only bluff on the cutoff or dealer positions, if i'm only facing limpers, i understand this is the norm but since i'm a tight player, my table image helps me in this case.

well it depends. position, size of the pot, number of players involved.

i only do it if the pot is near 10bb, there are one oe two players involved and i'm the last to act.

The only times i bfreak those rules, is against limpers , i'm on the bb and the flop is rags.
