Example 1
You're in early position, you have ace of diamondsjack of hearts and you call the big blind. After your turn a player raises, then a player after that re-raises and finally another player in late position calls the re-raise. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. It is likely that someone else has an Ace with a better kicker than you or even a better hand. You have only paid one bet and it is likely that when you call another player will raise again. Besides, you are in the early and therefore bad position.

Example 2
You're in the middle position and you have 7 of hearts7 of spades. a player in early position and the player before you both call the big blind. What should you do?

Answer:
You should call. This is because you want to see the flop as cheap as possible. Second reason is because you want to have as many players in the pot as possible. You want to create a big pot in case you get another 7 for "three of a kind" which will very likely be enough to win the pot. Please take into account that there should always be minimum 4 players in the pot to be profitable with this approach in the long run.

Example 3
You're in a middle position and you get ace of diamonds10 of spades. All players before you fold.
What should you do?

Answer:
You should raise. You either want to get the pot or play against as few opponents as possible. In the ideal situation everybody else folds as well or maybe except the blinds, but in that case you're in the best (latest) position anyway.

Example 4
You're in middle position and you get ace of heartsjack of spades. a player in early position and the player before you call. What should you do?

Answer:
You should call, although raise is also on option. The reason to call should be that you hope that people with weaker hands which you dominate, such as ace of clubs10 of diamonds and king of diamondsjack of hearts, will go along. You also hope that you can see the flop quite cheap so that you can fold your hand quite easily in case you do not get a good flop. The reason to raise should be that you want to bet people out of the pot in order to have a bigger chance to win.

Example 5
You're in a middle position and you get a queen of spadesqueen of hearts. a player in early position raises and the player after him re-raises. The player before you calls. What should you do?

Answer:
You should re-raise. At this point is very likely that you have the best hand and you thus want as many people as possible out of the pot. The chance that someone else has an AA or KK is small. Be aware in case an a or K appears on the flop. The chance is then, that you will be beaten.

Example 6
You're in middle position and get an ace of diamonds5 of hearts. The first 3 players call and the player before you raises. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. If the player before you had called as well you could have done the same. With a hand like this you only want to play large pots in which have not been raised.

Example 7
You're in an early position and you get a king of clubsqueen of clubs. a bad player who plays too many hands raises. The player afterwards calls. What should you do?

Answer:
You should call. If a good player had raised you should have folded. This is because in that case the good player probably had a better hand. In this situation however your hand is good enough to call. Besides, you also call because king of clubsqueen of clubs does it well in pots with many players so you don't want to chase anybody away.

Example 8
You're in early position and you get a 9 of clubs9 of diamonds. The player before you raises. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. In case the player before you has a pocket pair he probably has a higher pair than you, which makes him/her a strong favorite to win. Moreover, there are still many players after you who might have a better hand and thus want to raise. If you don't fold this could cost you a lot of money!

Example 9
You're in the small blind and you get a queen of diamonds6 of diamonds. Three players in early position call and a player in middle position raises. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. You probably need a flush or two pair to win, which will not happen frequently enough to be profitable in the long run.

Example 10
You're on the button and you get ace of heartsace of spades. Everyone folds. What should you do?

Answer:
You should raise. Everyone will expect that you try to steal the blinds and for this reason you will be called frequently by marginal hands. Sometimes even the blinds re-raise you with a marginal hand!

Example 11
You're on the button and you get 9 of spades8 of spades. Three players call and the
player before you (= the cut-off) raises. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. You only want to play this hand in large pots in which nobody raises.

Example 12
You're on the button and you get 7 of hearts6 of hearts and everyone before you folds. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. This is a bad hand to play with against few opponents. You should only raise in this situation if you have an a minimum, a pocket pair or a Kx suited.

Example 13
You're in late position and you get an ace of diamonds10 of clubs. a player in early position calls and a player in middle position raises. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. 10 Is not a good kicker. Moreover, you have to pay two bets in order to win a small pot and on top of that you probably have the worst hand. You should try to avoid these situations!

Example 14
You're in middle position and you get king of clubs10 of clubs. a player in early position and the player before you call. You also call. Then the player after you raises and the player on the button re-raises. What should you do?

Answer:
You should fold. You have to pay minimum 2 bets extra to be able see the flop. Moreover, your hand is probably dominated. At this point you've only lost 1 bet so it's better to fold.

Example 15
You're in middle position and you get 4 of diamonds4 of spades. All players before you call. What should you do?

Answer:
You should call. You'll win a big pot on the flop in case there appears a 4 on the flop so it is profitable in the long run to play in this situation. Remember: as long as there are many players in the pot before the flop!!
